São Paulo – The Amazon Week that takes place at the Brazil Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will drive the plantation of 20,000 trees. Visitors will have the opportunity to digitally plant and adopt 20,000 trees across the Amazon Rainforest and the UAE.
The initiative is held by Seara Alimentos and takes place from Wednesday (1) to December 7. Seara is a company affiliated with Brazilian business group JBS, a leading beef, sheepmeat and poultry global player. Seara exports to over 150 countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain.
Twenty thousand trees will be planted
According to the company, this immersive experience gives visitors a glimpse into the world's largest tropical rainforest, along with an opportunity to participate in the plantation. The initiative in the Amazon will be driven through digital sign-ups at the Expo and implemented through JBS' partnership with Solidaridad, an international civil society organization.
“Amazon is the largest tropical forest in the world and has a significant effect on the global climate. We are committed to global sustainability as part of a comprehensive ESG strategy which is part of our business globally,” says Joanita Maestri Karoleski, president of JBS Fund for Amazon .
In the UAE the Emirates Environmental Group will lead the local initiative by inviting 500 participants to join a tree plantation drive in the Gulf country. The Amazon Week will also pay tribute to the people of the UAE in celebration of its 50 years. The country's independence is celebrated on December 2.
Representatives of JBS Fund for Amazon had meetings earlier this week in the Gulf with the support of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). The initiatives of the fund were also showcased in early October during the Brazil-UAE Amazon Economic Sustainability Forum held by the ABCC in Dubai in parallel to the Expo 2020 Dubai.
