Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the Taliban have billions of dollars worth of weapons left by the previous Afghan government and the US and added that they do not need to buy more so the assets of Afghanistan must be released.

Speaking at economic union in the Russian capital Moscow, Vladimir Putin said the Taliban desperately need the money to address the humanitarian crisis, buy medicines, and support the Afghan children.

Raising the voice, Putin has now joined the countries and international organizations that have been calling on the west to release over $9 billion of Afghanistan to help address the deepening humanitarian crisis in the country.

The Russian president has called on the Western Banks especially American Banks to pioneer and release the fund for humanitarian needs.

Putin also accused the Western allies of not learning lessons from Afghanistan and repeating the same in other parts of the world.

The call for releasing Afghanistan's assets comes as the World Bank has decided to consider releasing $500 million in aid for Afghanistan.

The Taliban have welcomed the decision.
