Ahead of IPL mega auction here's a list of reported players retention

The much-awaited mega auction for the new season of IPL is just around the corner. There's been too much speculation about which franchise will retain which player ahead of the auction. Check the reported retention list below to find if your favorite player has been retained by their franchise.

When is the deadline? What is the retention rule?

The official retention statement will come by 30 November. Each of the eight franchises is allowed to keep a maximum of four players. They can't have more than three Indians or two foreign players in their final four. Meanwhile, once the eight teams have submitted their list of retained players, the two new franchises – Lucknow and Ahmedabad – will have the option of selecting at least three players each from the pool of non-retained players. While none of the teams has made their retention official, multiple reports have confirmed who each of the eight franchises plans to keep.

List of retained players as per reports

MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are all expected to stay with their teams ahead of the IPL mega auction. However, several high-profile players, including KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Hardik Pandya, are expected to be released by their respective franchises.

Chennai Super Kings

Mumbai Indians
  • Rohit Sharma
  • Jasprit Bumrah
  • Kieron Pollard
  • Ishan Kishan

Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful captains in the IPL winning 5 titles for the team, therefore, keeping him is a no-brainer for Mumbai Indians. Pollard is the ideal finisher for the franchises whereas Bumrah is an asset and Kishan may be selected thinking about the future. 

Royal Challengers Bangalore
  • Virat Kohli
  • Glenn Maxwell
  • Mohmmad Siraj

While RCB is still searching for its first cup as well as a new captain, they've decided to keep their 3-star players Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj. Whether RCB will keep one more player or not is still to be announced. 

Delhi Capitals

  • Prithvi Shaw
  • Axar Patel
  • Anrich Nortje

Shreyas Iyer and R Ashwin are all set to be released by the Delhi Capitals, who have certainly decided to keep captain Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and South African speedster Anrich Nortje ahead of the new season.

Kolkata Knight Riders

  • Venkatesh Iyer
  • Varun Chakaravarthy

In addition, the Kolkata Knight Riders have retained four players ahead of the IPL mega auction. According to ESPN Cricinfo, they have retained all-rounder Sunil Narine, all-rounder Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, and spinner Varun Chakaravarthy for the upcoming season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad
  • Kane Williamson

Sunrisers Hyderabad has retained captain Kane Williamson ahead of the mega auction, according to ESPN Cricinfo. However the franchise was also interested in keeping Rashid Khan, but it is unclear whether he will stay with SRH or not.

Rajasthan Royals
  • Sanju Samson
  • Jos Buttler
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal

The Rajasthan Royals have, however, retained only three players. Skipper Samson has been retained as their first choice and as a result, will be paid Rs 14 crore. However other two players retained by RR are Jos Buttler and young Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings are reportedly planning to retain none of the players from their current squad and as a result, will head into the auction with a full purse of Rs 90 crore.
