Saudi Arabia criticizes president of Israel over going to Ibrahimi Mosque for Hanukkah

(MENAFN) According to Saudi local media, on Monday, the kingdom criticized a trip by Israel’s President Isaac Herzog to the Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank city of Hebron to join a celebration of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

The country’s official news agency SPA stated, quoting a statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry, that the act is a "flagrant violation of the sanctity of the mosque."

The ministry also mentioned, that the move is "hostile and provokes feelings of Muslims all over the world," mentioning that the Israeli occupation takes responsibility of this move’s outcome.

On Sunday, Herzog pushed into the mosque to participate in a candle lighting ceremony made as a tradition of Hanukkah.
