Fierce winds kill 4, injures 16 in Istanbul


(MENAFN) Based on the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), no less than four individuals passed away on Monday when the Turkish city of Istanbul was struck by a strong storm with gale-power winds.

AFAD also mentioned in a statement, that another 38 citizens were wounded. On 8.30 pm (1730GMT), 1,517 calls were dialed to the 112 Emergency Call Center in the city because of the storm.

According to the governor’s office, emergency services are exerting their best efforts to get support to people who need it. Since Monday morning, the metropolis, home to more than 15 million citizens, has experienced fierce winds which pulled up trees, teared off rooftops and even knocked down a clock tower.

State weather officials stated that the wind was as fast as 129 kilometers per hour (80 miles per hour) in the district of Beylikduzu, that also was hit by a short mud rain in the storm.
