Qatar - Labour Ministry participates in regional forum on challenges to combating trafficking in persons

Doha: The Ministry of Labour participated in the work of the third regional governmental forum to discuss the challenges of combating trafficking in persons, which was held under the slogan“National and International Coordination on Combatting Trafficking in Persons in the Light of Coronavirus Pandemic'.

The forum, which is hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and held via video conference technology over two days, aims to discuss the most prominent challenges and developments in the field of combating human trafficking crimes in the Middle East, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic, and to develop joint action plans by the committees to tackle these crimes.

The heads of the committees concerned with human trafficking in the GCC and Arab countries, as well as representatives of international bodies, will participate in the forum.

During his speech at the forum, the Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs Mohammed Hassan Al Obaidli, stressed the efforts of the State of Qatar to combat human trafficking during the Coronavirus pandemic, through coordination and communication, at the local and international levels, with the relevant authorities, based on the states commitment to human rights and within the framework of its National Vision 2030.

Al Obaidli also referred to the role of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, which was established to be the link in forming international partnerships in the field of combating and addressing human trafficking, speaking of a package of state-led reforms represented by the Ministry of Labour in the field of human rights, including, regulating the work of recruitment agencies, and establishing Qatar visa centers in labor-sending countries with the aim of preventing workers from paying recruitment fees.
