21 JK 'Exemplary Women' Celebrated at SKICC

Srinagar- 98.3 Radio mirchi in collaboration with Directorate of mission for protection & Empowerment of women social welfare department, on Monday, organized 'Mirchi Power women 21' event at SKICC to Celebrate 21 powerful women of J&K for their path breaking work in 2021.

The event was aimed at acknowledging the women who are breaking stereotypes and doing commendable work in different fields by felicitating them.

While emphasizing the importance of empowering women in J&K, chief guest for the event, Shabnum Kamli said 'women empowerment in real sense means to provide opportunities to every woman in the same way as we care for ourselves'. She further added that, 'I commemorate the journeys of all the females who are present here and admire their commendable work for creating a niche for themselves in the society.'

The awards were presented by Women from different fields. Among them was Principal Women's College MA Road Nasreen Aman, Dr Shafquat Ara Principal Polytechnic College Bemina, DSP Syed Sleet Shah and renowned Kashmiri Singer Mehmeet Saeed.

The 21 Exemplary women who were felicitated during the event included Irfana Zargar (SMC), Insha Bashir (Sports) ,Ufra Mir (Mental Health Expert), Salima Ji (Handicrafts Department) ,Tasia Tariq (Youtube), Fiza Nazir (Sports), Zehrunisa (Journalist), Bilquis Ara (Public service), Tabassum Ara (Healthcare) ,Mehak Suhail & Nadia Nighat(sports), Arifa Jan (Handicrafts department), Roohi Sultana (education), Dr Suraya Farooq(health care) , Dr.Mahnoor Qadri (Public service), Insha Muzaffar (Entrepreneur), Kritika Khanna (sports), Medhavi (Art), Rashi Dutta (Administration),Mrs Anuradha Gupta (Administration) and Mrs. Anu Malhotra(Administration).

While receiving the award for her extensive reporting on Covid 19 and highlighting gaps in the health sector, Journalist, Zehrun Nisa said, 'I believe women's health and women empowerment go hand in hand and as to support one we need to work on the other'.

Another Awardee Insha Bashir who received the award for being the first Kashmiri International wheelchair Basketball player and Coach said, ''After my accident at the age of 15 and being dependent on my wheelchair, I was battling depression for 5 years not because of my condition but because of the unnecessary sympathy from people around me who subjected me to sheer criticism but it was their Criticism that encouraged me to do good in life. People who challenged me for my genderAnne actually the ones who drove me to actually do it.''

She further added that 'Every life is a message and it should be inspiring, I came over every hardship that was meant to destroy me'.

While talking to Kashmir Observer, Vijdan Saleem, one of the organizers of the event said that Mirchi has been doing women

centric event since its inception. 'We have always celebrated the power of women and this event is the culmination of that only, motivating us to conduct such events every year .'

When asked about the aim of organising the event, Vijdan said that the only aim is to highlight, recognize, honour and acknowledge the achievements and hard work put in by these fabulous womens in their fields. 'As men we should be supportive and not make women empowerment about ourselves which is usually what happens when we talk about it , just sit back, be supportive and help women'. Vijdan told Kashmir Observer.
