Netherlands discovers 13 new cases of new COVID strain


(MENAFN) On Sunday, the health authorities of the Netherlands discovered 13 cases of the newly-detected strain of Covid-19, Omicron, that was firstly identified in South Africa.

The Netherlands’ National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) stated that the individuals with the Omicron strain came to the Netherlands from South Africa on Friday.

The RIVM declared in a statement that 624 travelers coming to the country from South Africa were tested for Covid-19 by the public health service in the northwestern Kennemerland area.

It also added, "the passengers were tested at Schiphol Airport and 61 of them tested positive for COVID-19. These test samples were sent to RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment for further analysis to determine which variant of the coronavirus was involved."
