Japan imposes travel restrictions again due to new coronavirus strain

(MENAFN) On Friday, Japan declared imposing a ban again on overseas travelers coming into the nation because of worries over the new Omicron strain of Covid-19.

Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan stated reporters in Tokyo that the ban is going to be implemented as of Tuesday. Saying “it (ban) is to avoid the worst-case scenario.”

Japan had forced a ban on the entrance of external visitors after the pandemic invaded the world a year ago. The ban was alleviated early this month on Nov. 8. Moreover, the ban comes after South African scientists declared a week ago that they had detected the Omicron strain, which has various mutations that could getting infected again.

The prime minister also mentioned, “it is a temporary measure until information about the Omicron variant becomes clear,” Kishida stated that an individual who came to Japan from Namibia on Sunday tested positive for Covid-19. But, the findings of the tests to identify its kind are still awaiting.
