WHO rings bell over Omicron variant

(MENAFN) As cautioned by the World Health Organization, the Omicron variant of the coronavirus presents a "very high" danger universally.

The WHO informed its members in a technical letter before the conference agreed to talk about the importance of a global pandemic agreement "If another major surge of COVID-19 takes place driven by Omicron, consequences may be severe."

"Increasing cases, regardless of a change in severity, may pose overwhelming demands on health care systems and may lead to increased morbidity and mortality.”

"The emergence of the highly mutated Omicron variant underlines just how perilous and precarious our situation is” on the words of WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus.

Ghebreyesus added “The Omicron variant demonstrates just why world needs new accord on pandemics, our current system" clarifying that “it is time to make choices to invest in healthier, safer, fairer future."
