Qatar - Shura Council approves decree amending Combatting Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Law

Doha: The Shura Council held Monday its regular weekly session chaired by the Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanem.

The Council then discussed the report of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee, which was presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Decree-Law No. 19 of 2021 amending some provisions of the Combatting Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Law which was promulgated by Law No. 20 of 2019 and approved by the Council after extensive discussions among its members.

After that, the Speaker briefed the members on the Council's participation in the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), currently held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, under the title 'Contemporary challenges to democracy: Overcoming division and building community'.

The Speaker briefed the members of the Council on the meetings he held on the sidelines of the IPU Assembly with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Secretary-General of the Union, the President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and the Chairman of the Russian State Duma's International Affairs Committee. The meetings reviewed bilateral parliamentary relations and ways to strengthen and consolidate them.

The Council welcomed the participation of the Shura delegation and the meetings held by HE the Speaker with his international counterparts, considering that they will contribute to strengthening the parliamentary relations of the Shura Council at the international and regional levels.
