Uganda denounces national airport seizure by China

(MENAFN) The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) denounced allegations saying the Entebbe International Airport is to be seized by the government of China failed to fulfil the prolongation of the debt, reporting “it has not happened, and is not going to happen”.

The danger of China taking over the Entebbe International Airport is farfetched, stated Mr. Vianney Mpungu Luggya, the Manager Public Affairs at UCAA.
He mentioned: “We would like to make it categorically clear that the allegation that Entebbe International Airport has been given away for cash is false,” with saying that the Chinese government cannot give up on a global airport that is thought to be a national asset.

This incident takes place following statements showing a number of unessential provisions in the USD200 million debt selected to grow Entebbe International Airport which Uganda inked with Export-Import (Exim) Bank of China on March 31, 2015.

He further said: “The lender’s monitoring of the account is only similar to what happens when one gets a salary loan or any other loan for that matter, and the bank requests that the salary is channeled through their bank. It does not mean that lending bank takes over your salary.”
