Qatar - QFA officials take part in AFC's 31st Congress


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The 31st Congress of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) was held on Saturday through visual communication with the participation of Hani Ballan, member of the QFA Executive Office, and Mansoor Al Ansari, Secretary-General of QFA, along with the heads of member federations, representing their national federations.

The agenda of the 31st Congress of the AFC General Assembly discussed the minutes of the previous conference, which was held on December 9, 2020, which includes the AFC activity report.

The financial report for the year 2020, and the budget for the year 2021-2022 were also reviewed, and the meeting also discussed proposals and amendments to the statutes of the AFC that govern the application of the statute.

At the outset, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the AFC, praised the pivotal roles of the national member federations and regional associations in ensuring that the Confederation continues to rise to a stronger position from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic while welcoming the attendance of representatives of the national federations. Member Associations that have not been able to participate in at least two FA competitions over the past two years have been approved prior to the 31st General Assembly 2021 and are therefore were not deprived of the right to vote during the meeting.

Sheikh Salman welcomed FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who participated in the meeting and said:“Slowly but confidently, thanks to the unity of the members of the AFC, Asian football has continued to rise stronger from the darkest times, and now we are in a good position to take advantage of the many opportunities in front of us.” 

The AFC President expressed his optimism that Asian football will continue to build on the solid pace of recovery achieved during 2021 to complete a historic year in 2022 when the world's eyes will turn on the continent of Asia.

The General Assembly approved the audited financial reports for the year 2020 and the budget of the AFC for the years 2021 and 2022 as well as the appointment of the external auditors for the period from Dec 2021 to Dec 2024.
