Germany records 2 Omicron variant contagion cases


(MENAFN) Germany recorded the first two infection cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant, which is newly found in South Africa.

In accordance to a report by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, both recorded cases reached Germany from South Africa on Wednesday.

Statements on the new strain urged the two people to test for the coronavirus, and said they were quarantined since Thursday.

The report as well called for people who were in South Africa in the last two weeks to lessen interaction with other people, test for the virus, and talk to the health sector.

South African experts stated that they had found the Omicron variant that has many changes, which may be danger for reinfection, while Omicron was discovered in nearby Botswana as well, in addition to Hong Kong, and was first found on November 12-22 ahead of the announcement of it on Thursday.

The World Health Organization confirmed the strain a "variant of concern," and called it Omicron.
