SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley's top footballing talent, Danish Farooq made his Indian Super League debut on Wednesday as his team, Bengaluru FC, took on Odisha FC at Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco da Gama, Goa.
Wearing jersey no. 12, Danish replaced wide midfielder Jayesh Rane in the 43rd minute of the first half. Danish and his team dominated the match in terms of possession and chances created, but Odisha capitalised on their chances to effectively beat Bengaluru 3-1.
Bengaluru FC has India's star striker, Sunil Chhetri, spearheading the attack and will next play Kerala Blasters on Sunday, November 28.
Meanwhile, both Jammu & Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) and J&K National & International Footballers Forum (NIFF) congratulated Danish on his ISL debut.
“It is a proud moment for the fraternity of footballers and JKFA that a player of J&K has made its place in one of the top teams of the country. We wish Danish and Benguluru FC best of luck in their future endeavours,” the JKFA said.
NIFF said that it is a proud moment for all football lovers of Kashmir Valley.
“Danish Farooq, a role model of many youngsters around (here), made his ISL debut for Bengaluru FC against Odisha FC. Best wishes to Danish for upcoming games,” NIFF said.
“BFC is one of the best clubs in the country, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to be a part of it. My immediate challenge is to do well in the AFC Cup and the Hero Indian Super League [Hero ISL]. My ultimate goal is to achieve success with the club and to grow as a player,” Danish had said back in July during his unveiling ceremony at Bengaluru.
Prior to this, Danish has made 48 appearances in I-League (India's second-tier league championship after ISL) with Real Kashmir FC and Lonestar Kashmir FC. He accumulated 7 goals and 5 assists during that time.
