Cait is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Planning, where she is a member of the Geographic Data Science Lab. As a quantitative human geographer, Cait's research investigates the causes and consequences of different types of spatial inequality, with a particular interest in energy or fuel poverty and energy justice.
Prior to joining Liverpool, Cait was a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) at Newcastle University. Here she worked on the Alan Turing Institute funded 'Spatial Inequality in the Smart City' project. This project explored the social and spatial inequalities embedded in sensor infrastructure increasingly deployed as part of smart city agendas.
Before joining Newcastle, Cait was a teaching-focused Lecturer in Geographical Information Systems at The University of Manchester where she also completed her PhD in Human Geography. Her PhD focused upon the geographies of vulnerability to energy poverty, an inability to access the socially and materially necessitated energy services in the home. Her research shed light on the geographies of vulnerability to energy poverty in case studies of England and China, from the scale of the neighbourhood to the household.
