(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Nov. 25 (Petra) -- The Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) received more than 3.6 million passengers in the January-October period of 2021.
The airport registered 36,683 aircraft movements, an increase of 79.1% in comparison with the same period in 2020, and a decrease of 45.9% in 2019, according to the Airport International Group (AIG) records. The airport handled 48,051 tons of cargo, recording an increase of 17.6% compared to 2020, and a decrease of 43.8% compared to 2019, it added.
Last October, the QAIA received 541,629 passengers, constituting a 25.1% drop compared to figures from 2019. The aircraft movement were at 5,146, dropping by 21.4% compared to the same period of 2019, while cargo hit 6,192 tons, tumbling by 33.7%, the group said.
The Chief Executive Officer of the AIG Nicolas Claude said the moderate recovery of global air transport will take a few more years to regain the same the levels as 2019, before the Covid-19 breakout.
He said the AIG employees are ready to receive more numbers of passengers, predicting a tangible progress in the sector's overall recovery.
