Biya which in Arabic means the environment is founded by two women entrepreneurs, Pooja Singh and Prateesha Malik who started Biya all while meeting their responsibilities at office, home and families as they were driven by the earnest desire to share the gift of sustainable home living with others and help them experience its incredible health benefits. While Pooja is a senior finance professional with a career spanning over 15 years working as an advisor for UAE capital market authority, Prateesha is the Learning & Development Head for a leading product company in India. Both these women are driving Biya to redefine the homes and living spaces in the Arab world by enlightening them with sustainable living practices from their home country India.
Lack of resources, as they say, leads to innovation. This one liner sums up Biya’s story which winds up its dream beyond just happy clients. It is a vision that everyone’s home, planet earth is at peace and does not suffer more.
It all started when two best friends Pooja and Prateesha, moved into new homes and were awed with setting up a personalised living space where they could make memories, detached from the outside world. Styling a restful abode goes beyond one’s design appeal and pieces within a space. They needed natural materials to give us wellbeing benefits and improve their families’ connection to nature.
However, our quest for sustainable chemical free home decor items soon turned into nightmare. They were taken aback by the limited off the shelf options available and the obscene prices they were being sold at. Furthermore, the pieces available in the marketplace had some element of plastic or chemical in it.
Left with slender options, they started curating their own collection from all over the world, designing and manufacturing them through the help of artisans and friends with creative minds. The end result was unimaginable and they were over blown by what they had achieved.
While setting up things, their belief in this larger than life vision of designing an ethical abode had gotten a push. They were overwhelmed with the admiration and the compliments. Soon requests for similar products from our loved ones starting pouring in.
Realizing the need, they decided to turn the scarcity of sustainable home decor into a brighter opportunity! The reward was not only in monetary terms but towards their goal of promoting lifestyle change through calmer and peacefully designed homes. Soon, with such thought, BIYA was born! Since then they have never looked back.
Impressed by what how they have been redefining the home décor, home care and home essentials space and bringing sustainability living practices to UAE, The Indian Pavilion at Dubai Expo2020 has invited the BIYA team to exhibit their work at their Innovation Bus, to showcase how they are redefining sustainable living with style and affordability.
