Qatar developing a number of recreational beaches

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar is developing a number of recreational beaches which are expected to open soon, said an official.

“The beaches which are being developed by the Committee include Ras Bu Abboud recreational beach close to Ras Abu Aboud Stadium and West Bay North Beach among others and they are hopefully open soon,” said Projects Manager of Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, Eng. Jassim Abdulrahman Fakhroo, while speaking in a Qatar TV programme recently.

Ras Bu Abboud Beach development project aims to turn the beach into a tourist and family destination, especially as it is located in a distinguished area that qualifies it to be one of the main tourist attractions in Qatar, according to a report posted on Ashghal website.

The West Bay North Beach project is located along the business district in Doha, 10 minutes away from West Bay Metro Station and adjacent to a number of leading shopping outlets, parks and hotels. As part of the first phase, six beaches will be delivered for hotels surrounding West Bay to enhance tourism, while the second phase will be announced at a later stage, the report added.

The Committee is developing central Doha area by reviving some internal public roads, vital places, residential areas and plazas which will be completed before FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“The project is part of the plan to provide recreation to change the concept of Doha Down Town which will host visitors in eco-friendly environment,” Eng Fakhroo told Qatar TV.

Under Qatar National Vision 2030, he said, the Committee aims to humanise cities with its vision to create a balance between people and the environment.

“The urban development expanded hugely in Qatar. We have excellent places but they were not connected. Now we are working to connect the places in Doha with networks for cyclists and pedestrians to change concept of day-to-day life to adopt eco-friendly practices,” said Eng Fakhroo.

In addition, he said, the Committee is also planting trees to protect environment as the climate of the country is hot, among many other things to ensure the sustainability. Speaking about the initiative of the Committee for involving children in planting trees, he said:“We are coordinating with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education for seeking support from schools in this regards.”

He said that school students are targeted for planting tree initiative to influence their behaviours towards importance of greenery for sustainability since childhood.

“We are also planned to communicate with individuals in near future inviting them to plant at least a tree at their houses,” said Eng Fakhroo.
