Qatar - Five-day fish stock assessment and management training course begins


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The“Fish Stock Assessment and Fisheries Management” training course, organised by the Ministry of Municipality represented by the Fisheries Department, began yesterday with the participation of a number of technical staff working in the field of fisheries.

The five-day course addresses a number of key themes, including identifying the basic requirements of fish stock assessment, uses and methods of analysis to the results on which the proposal, issuance and implementation of fisheries regulation procedures are based and contribute to future policies on fishing operations and the conservation and sustainability of fish species.

On this occasion, Director of the Fisheries Department at the Ministry of Municipality, Abdulaziz Al Dehaimi, stressed the importance of evaluating fish stocks and the subsequent fisheries management procedures, and touched on the importance of the course due to the economic, social, and environmental importance of fisheries that must be preserved and benefited from in a sustainable manner to prevent deterioration in productivity, through the development and implementation of policies and controls studied to achieve them, pointing out that the course aims to qualify and develop local technical staff working in the field of fish stock assessment and fisheries management.

The organisation of this course is part of the Ministry's strategy to optimize and sustainable exploitation of living marine resources, contributing to the conservation of fish stocks and the protection of the marine environment.
