Iraq rejects prolonging date for US forces extraction

(MENAFN) The Iraqi military rejected statements regarding prolonging the date for the leave of US war troops from Iraq.

Main General Tahsin al-Khafaji, spokesperson of the Joint Operations Command, informed the official Iraqi News Agency “The date for the departure of (US) combat forces on Dec. 31 is fixed and there is no change.”

In July, Baghdad and Washington decided to take out US troops from Iraq by the end of this year, but an unidentified figure of US troops would stay to guide and train Iraqi troops.

According to al-Khafaji "The relationship between the two sides after the departure of the combat forces will be an advisory relationship, in the fields of training, armament, intelligence, and security against the Daesh/ISIS terror group.”
