(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: College of the North Atlantic – Qatar in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has celebrated the completion of a training programme in robotics that was delivered to 43 public school teachers and 14 students from CNA-Q's School of Business Management and Information Technology.
Completion certificates were handed to the participants who were encouraged to use the skills acquired from this training to improve student and peer-to-peer STEM learning.
Dr. Salem Al Naemi, President of CNA-Q said:“We are pleased to see STEM bringing people of all backgrounds together. STEM-based education goes beyond science and mathematics to give students essential skills for the new digital era, including cognitive flexibility, digital literacy, computational thinking, creativity and more. As an applied College we strive to offer top notch education and are committed to engaging with the community and different stakeholders to spread knowledge and help build a society capable of achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.”
The hands-on 30 hour training course consisted of 10 classes, in which teachers applied mathematical and programming concepts to design and build programmable robots. The College has been offering these free training sessions since 2011. They are provided in English and Arabic during evening time. The Robotics training and its resultant delivery in the schools is vital in developing students' interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
Since the start of the program, more than a thousand teachers were able to bring applied STEM education into their classrooms in a fun and interactive way.
Furthermore, such education does not only support students' advancement with their STEM skills, it also develops other 21st century transferable skills such as teamwork, communication and innovation.
Dr. Rachid Benlamri, Vice President, Academic Affairs and Acting Dean for the School of Business Management and Information Technology at CNA-Q said:“Our robotics training program is aligned with future technological trends in the world, this is especially important as most economy practices today rely on technology and data-driven strategies. By delivering such trainings to teachers and students we offer them a chance to excel, innovate and help others explore the STEM world.”
