Supply of natural gas to Spain from Algeria be done according to new schedule
(MENAFN) Teresa Ribera, Spanish Minister for Ecological Transition made an urgent trip to Algeria to guarantee natural gas supply to Spain amid diplomatic pressures amid Algeria and Morocco.
Algeria supplies Spain with 40 percent of its natural gas but much of it arrives over the 13.5 billion-cubic-meter Maghreb-Europe (GME) pipeline that pours through Morocco to Spain.
Algeria is intimidating to turn off the tap to stop gas supplies to Morocco, when the pipeline’s contract is set to expire Oct. 31.
Algeria cut diplomatic relations with Morocco in August, accusing its neighbor of “hostile acts.”
Ribera stated after meeting Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab that she received a “total guarantee” that Spain will keep receiving the same amount of gas as previously settled.
