(MENAFN- Action PR) GITEX Global x Ai Everything, the world’s largest technology show this year, hosted at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) until Thursday 21 October, teamed up with Teens in Ai, a UK-based initiative that aims to democratise AI and create opportunities for underrepresented talent, to award the UAE’s best young talent.
The multi-team cross-school hackathon, supported by NVIDIA, drew multiple entries from the best and brightest talents aged 11-18, who were then brought together for series of bootcamps, networking events and the final Demo Day, featuring interactive workshops and inspirational sessions, followed by an awards ceremony on day four of GITEX Global x Ai, at DWTC.
Following a strongly fought competition, the team behind SimplyGreen, an app that focuses on ethical food consumption, was crowned winners, claiming the first prize of AED 2,500. Team Animvare, took second place and AED 1,500, with Team Buddy taking third and a AED 1,000 prize.
“We’re extremely grateful to Teens in Ai for providing us with this opportunity and platform. We’re really passionate about STEM and believe it is high time we begin considering the carbon footprint we are leaving behind. We’re very excited to have won this hackathon and are confident that we will take SimplyGreen forward”, said Tuder, Cameron and Sofia from team SimplyGreen.
Bootcamp for future stars
Earlier in the day, GITEX Global x Ai Everything had also hosted a bootcamp for more than 200 students representing various schools in the UAE. The GITEX YouthX bootcamp included an inspirational talk by Elie Habib, co-founder and CTO, Anghami, the first legal music streaming platform and digital distribution company in the Arab world.
During his interaction with the kids, Habib narrated the success story of Anghami, beginning from a simple thought he had during a skiing ride in Lebanon when he forgot to sync his iPod, to developing a fully-fledged streaming platform with 75 million users.
Following this, Filip Marić, from the University of Belgrade, interacted with the students on the topic ‘Intro to Pygame for Video Games’ sharing insights about the online Pygame courses that help them learn programming – a fundamental skill for high school students.
