National Rehabilitation Center Marks Emphatic Participation at Aqdar World Summit


(MENAFN- Mid-East.Info) Abu Dhabi, UAE: The National Rehabilitation Center (NRC) is marking an emphatic participation at Aqdar World Summit, currently underway at Dubai Exhibition Centre as part of Expo 2020 Dubai. The event runs under the patronage of His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, under the theme 'Positive Global Citizenship: Empowerment of Sustainable Investment Opportunities'.

The highlights of NRC's participation in the event includes a pavilion to provide visitors with an insight into the latest technologies in psychological services including the Virtual Reality experience to learn about the effects of addiction. Furthermore, a specialized team of counsellors and medical professionals from NRC are on hand to offer psychological and social counseling to the visitors.

NRC's pavilion 07, also features a variety of awareness services and activities in preventing addiction, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the scientific studies and research issued by the Center.

The virtual reality experience at NRC pavilion aims to enable visitors to gain an insight into the effects of drugs on a person's ability to perform various tasks, such as simple movements, walking and driving vehicles. The technology helps visitors to experiment the dangers of addiction and the impact of drugs on human activities.

His Excellency Dr Hamad Al Ghafri, Director General of NRC, said:“Aqdar World Summit serves as a unique opportunity to highlight NRC's leading role in supporting the local community, promoting positive global citizenship and empowering sustainable investment opportunities for future generations in line with the UAE’s 10 principles for the next 50 years. He added:“NRC's expertise and world-class facilities have enabled the Center to earn the accreditation of World Health Organization as a Collaborating Center of excellence in the field of substance abuse. Today, we are delivering on our multi-pronged mission of creating awareness about the dangers of addiction, while sharing our perspectives and research on the future of addiction treatment and recovery.”

Al Ghafri also invited visitors to NRC's pavilion at Aqdar World Summit and to become part of the Center's efforts to elevate awareness about the dangers of addiction. Through attending various panels sessions hosted by the Center, visitors can learn more about its activities to prevent all types of addiction.

As part of its priority to accelerate local efforts in addiction treatment and prevention, Dr. Samya Mohammed Al Mamari, NRC's Acting Medical Services Sector Director participated in a panel session hosted by Erada Center for Treatment and Rehab on the opening day of the summit (October 25) and highlighted the Center's vision in addiction recovery domain. The session was held under the theme 'Future of recovery in the UAE and impact of positive citizenship'.

NRC's vision for addiction recovery involves in-depth study about the causes and motives of drug abuse, implementation of effective solutions, treatment from addiction, and protection from relapse and reintegration in society.

NRC also sees that addiction recovery requires further development of treatment tools and overcoming the social stigma to ensure the success of treatment and recovery process. Furthermore, effective social reintegration of those recovering from addiction is imperative to achieve their long-term recovery.

On the day two of the summit on (October 26), the Center is set to host a lecture titled 'Foreseeing future patterns of drug abuse' by Dr. Anas Mahmoud Fikri, Head of Health Education Section at NRC to outline different patterns of drug and psychotropic substance abuse locally and globally. He will also highlight the unprecedented surge in cases of addiction worldwide following the breakout of Covid-19 pandemic.

NRC offers an array of highly effective treatment programs developed by a group of highly qualified doctors and experts in psychological and social services in line with international standards in recovery and relapse prevention.
