Al Sadd on Friday retained Amir Cup title after edging Al Rayyan 5-4 on penalties in the final, following a 1-1 draw at the brand new Al Thumama Stadium.
Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani crowned the champions, who clinched their 18th Amir Cup title.
Yacine Brahimi (44') minute put Al Rayyan ahead with a strike on penalty before Santi Cazorla pulled the goal back with a penalty strike in 58th minute in front of 40,000 spectators, attending the final as well as opening ceremony of Al Thumama Stadium.
Nothing could separate the two sides in tie-breaker until Al Sadd goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb blocked Al Rayyan's last penalty taken by Shoja Khalilzadeh. Woo-Young Jung sealed victory for Al Sadd.
