(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) on Monday announced the launch of a new direct flight between Washington, DC, and Amman through United Airlines.
JTB described the step as "very important" for its role in increasing tourism from the US to the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Tourism Minister and JTB Chairman Nayef Fayez said that flights are scheduled to commence on May 5, 2022, with an average of three trips per week, marking the first direct flight between the two capitals.
JTB Director General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat said that surveys conducted by the board in the US showed that 65 per cent of trade operators in the US have travel bookings in autumn of 2021, compared with only 15 per cent in the previous season.
Arabiyat also welcomed United Airlines in Amman and voiced aspirations for“prosperous cooperation” to attract more passengers to the Kingdom. He noted that the new route will also serve South America.
United Airlines Senior Vice President of International Network and Alliances Patrick Quayle voiced enthusiasm for the direct route, which will connect more people with Jordan, a country known for its“rich heritage and culture”.
He also said that the new destination reflects the company's confidence in the Kingdom, noting that international flights have started to recover after the“destruction” caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and that next year will witness“breaking travel records”.
