Infrastructure Projects in Middle East Named as Finalists in Bentley Systems' 2021 Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure

The annual awards program honors the extraordinary work of Bentley software users advancing infrastructure design, construction, and operations throughout the world. Sixteen independent jury panels selected 57 finalists from nearly 300 nominations submitted by more than 230 organizations from 45 countries encompassing 19 categories.

The Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure finalists will present their project presentations in the following solution areas:

Mobility , November 1 – Bridges; Rail and Transit; Road and Rail Asset Performance; Roads and Highways; and Structural Engineering 

Project Delivery , November 8 – Digital Construction; Geotechnical Engineering; Manufacturing; and Project Delivery Information Management

Cities , November 15 – Buildings and Campuses; Digital Cities; Land and Site Development; and Reality Modeling 

Energy , November 22 – Mining and Offshore Engineering; Power Generation; Utilities and Communications; and Utilities and Industrial Asset Performance

Water , November 22 – Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants; Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Networks

Winners will be announced on December 2, 2021. 

The Middle Eastern projects named as finalists for 2021 awards are:

Building and Campuses Category Finalist: 

Al Thumama Stadium 

Arab Engineering Bureau Doha, Al Thumama, Qatar 

The aesthetically designed Al Thumama Stadium will be the site of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and will be used later as a mixed-leisure facility for continued economic development. Arab Engineering Bureau needed to quickly optimize pedestrian flow in the design for both functions. Their pedestrian simulation model helped architects and planners ensure rapid movement and create an environmentally and socially sustainable space. 

Structural Engineering Category Finalist:
Rosewood Doha  

Arab Engineering Bureau Lusail, Doha, Qatar 

To ensure the structural integrity of an iconic, mixed-use, luxury development project while meeting the complex architectural requirements, Arab Engineering Bureau needed comprehensive, customizable structural design technology. Using the technology, they could determine that a post-tension steel slab system would reduce construction costs and time. Determining the optimal steel structural support solution saved 20% to 30% in resource hours and associated costs.
