34,000 young hamours released into Qatar waters

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) released 34,000 young hamours(groupers) into the sea as part of a project to enrich fish resources towards realizing self-sufficiency and food security in Qatar.
The ministry tweeted that the Fisheries Department collaborated with the Natural Reserves Department and the Beaches and Islands Section at the MME for the activity. They also published a video showing how the fish is transported from the hatchery to the sea.
MME had earlier in June had launched another initiative for farming of over 600 tonnes of tilapia fish in a year with the support of registered agricultural farms in Qatar.
The idea behind setting up fish farming project in free spaces of agricultural farms is to utilise nutrient rich water from fish farms for vegetable plants to produce high economic value organic produce.
