Doha: Al Darwish Jewellery, in cooperation with Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) and Kiswah Jewelers, launched the 'Ya Shafi' initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women in Qatar and worldwide, as part of 'Blossom' campaign.

The Ya Shafi initiative included Al Darwish Jewellery donating the proceeds from over 400 gold and silver bracelets for the treatment of cancer patients, which were designed specifically for this initiative, and they have the phrase 'Ya Shafi'.

In this regard, an awareness event was organised at the charity's headquarters, taking into account the preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19. The session  included an awareness workshop about breast cancer, presenting the story of one of the women living with breast cancer within 'I am a survivor, and I will inspire you with my story' programme.

The session also included a talk on healthy cooking, and handing over the trophy, and taking photos.

On this occasion, CEO of Al Darwish Jewellery, Abeer Abdallah Al Darwish, said,“Al Darwish Jewellery believes that our role is not only to provide a specific good or item to the Qatari market but also to (undertake) efforts with all institutions working in different sectors, especially in the field of health and social welfare.”

Director General of  Qatar Cancer Society, Mona Ashkanani, expressed her gratitude to Al Darwish Jewellery for launching this initiative, which would support women living with breast cancer, raise awareness of cancer, and emphasise the importance of community partnerships in spreading the Society's vision to be the community partnership platform for making Qatar a leader in cancer prevention.

Heba Nassar from Health Education Department at QCS highlighted the warning signs and symptoms of breast cancer, the risk factors that increase the possibility of infection, methods for early detection of the disease, and the efforts of the State of Qatar in this regard.
