CMA: Investor Protection Guideline Limits Risks Related to Securities Transactions


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Riyadh, October 14, 2021, SPA -- The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has developed an updated version of the Investor Protection Guideline as a complementing step to its efforts as part of strategic initiatives through its main aspects related to enhancing confidence in the capital market, mainly protecting investors in securities against unfair or improper practices, maintaining the integrity of the capital market, and developing the necessary procedures to limit risks related to securities transactions.
Ali Al-Dakheel, Director General for Communication and Investor Protection Division, said that the updated version of the Investor Protection Guideline reduces risks related to securities transactions, contributes to protecting investors from unfair or improper practices, and increases the awareness level of agents of the capital market's institutions through several instructions and advice that accompany investors gradually on their investment journey that is governed by the relation with capital market institution and the most important information that they need throughout this investment relationship that has to be characterized by transparency and confidence among all sides.
He said that the updated version of the Investor Protection Guideline covers a set of instructions and advice for shareholders in the listed companies, which guarantee framed ties between shareholders and the company, in a way that enhances complementary and fruitful ties between the company and its advisory and supervisory system, from one side, and the shareholder, from the other. As part of the CMA's keenness on the interest of agents of investment funds, the guideline details a number of general instructions for investors willing to subscribe in the collective investment programs“Investment Funds” that are offered and run by the capital market's institutions licensed by the CMA. The guideline also includes instructions necessary to warn and alert all current and future investors from dealing with financial institutions and people unlicensed to practice financial investment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
