Norway: Bow-arrow assault leaves 5 dead, 2 wounded
(MENAFN) Police stated that on Wednesday night, Oct. 13 a minimum of five persons died and another two were wounded in a string of assaults by a man carrying a weapon for shooting arrows in the provincial town center of Kongsberg, around 82 km southwest of the Norwegian capital city of Oslo.
Oyvind Aas, Police Chief in the South-East police district, affirmed to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) late Wednesday evening that amongst the two wounded was a police officer in civilian clothes. Both the wounded were in hospital.
Aas noted at a press meeting earlier: "it was at around 18:13 local time before the police received several messages that there was a person who moved around with a weapon and fired at people with a bow and arrows."
The suspected assailant has been detained in the very area at approximately 18:40 local time, said the police chief. There was a fight between the police and the suspect who attempted to flee before he was detained.
