Lebanon: Gunfire amidst demonstration leaves 2 dead in Beirut

(MENAFN) On Thursday, Oct. 14 al-Jadeed local TV channel said in a report that a minimum of two people lost their lives and several others were wounded in gunfire in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

The shooting took place in a planned demonstration by supporters of Hezbollah and Amal Movement against Judge Tarek Bitar who is probing the case of Beirut port blasts.

Hezbollah and Amal Movement kicked off the demonstrations in reaction to an arrest warrant issued on Tuesday by Bitar against Lebanon’s parliament member Ali Hassan Khalil after he didn’t show up to a questioning session.

The Lebanese army declared that it is searching the Tayouneh area close to Justice Palace to capture the shooters.
