Qatar foreign minister stresses Gulf bloc' s desire to preserve detente

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, Oct 13 (KUNA) -- Qatar's foreign minister said on Wednesday that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states share a common desire to keep amity within the bloc intact, hoping that a recent Gulf reconciliation would bring stability to the region.
Maintaining close and friendly ties among Gulf Arab states is a prelude to more prosperity and stability in the region, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani told a global security forum in the Qatari capital.
He said the Gulf region is in a better state in the wake of a resolution to a dispute between Qatar and Gulf states during a gathering of their leaders early this year in the historic Saudi city of Al-Ula.
More cooperation is imperative to rebuild economic ties, which is a matter that still needs more time, added the minister. (end)
