German Chancellor to discuss stalemate in Mideast peace in her visit to Israel

(MENAFN) German Chancellor Merkel is going to talk about the stalemate in the Middle East peace process in her visit to Israel over the weekend, according to her spokesman.

“The subject of Palestine, the subject of the peace process, the subject of the negotiated two-state solution, of which, however, nothing is to be seen at the moment, that always travels with us because it is one of the important subjects alongside bilateral relations,” Steffen Seibert further declared.

“This means that the chancellor will also express her conviction on this subject in talks with the Israeli interlocutors,” the official said.

The German leader is planned to gather with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, President Isaac Herzog, and Foreign Minister Jair Lapid for discussions in Jerusalem.

Also Merkel is going to assemble with the Israeli cabinet members in her Oct. 9-11 visit.
