RPS Ploggers Club launches microplastic cleaning drive

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) As a part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, Rajagiri Public School (RPS) Ploggers club launched a microplastic cleaning drive. Microplastics are tiny plastic particles less than five millimeters in diameter. They are a threat to aquatic creatures and turtles. Once ingested, they block digestive tracts, diminish the urge to eat and some species starve and die.
“Even though Qatar has an effective mechanism to collect and dispose solid waste, collection of micro plastics is a herculean task which needs public intervention. RPS Ploggers club will spread awareness among general public about the harmful effects of the presence of microplastics in nature and the members will make sincere efforts from their side to remove it at the source”, said Nisha Shahul, co-ordinator of the programme.
