Qatar renews support for Somalia in health, education and creating jobs


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The State of Qatar has renewed its support for brotherly Somalia in various development projects in the fields of health and education, and in creating job opportunities for young people, enhancing their security capabilities, and providing political support to ensure sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of the country.

This came in the statement  by Deputy Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Jawhara Al Suwaidi, at the 48th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, during an interactive dialogue with the independent expert on the situation of human rights in Somalia, under item 10 of the Council's agenda.

Al Suwaidi said that Qatar stresses that facing challenges, security threats, terrorism,  spread of COVID-19 pandemic, drought, floods and others, requires all Somali parties to exercise restraint, continue national dialogue, and commit to holding peaceful, transparent, inclusive and credible elections on time, which contributes to creating the right environment and providing means to implement plans and programs, especially those related to the promotion and protection of human rights.

Al Suwaidi underlined the importance of the international community continuing to provide the necessary support and technical assistance to build the capacity of institutions in line with the priorities and needs identified by the Somali government, which will contribute to the implementation of Somalia's national and international commitments. She also stressed the importance of continuing to provide humanitarian and development support to the Somali people to alleviate their humanitarian suffering and enhance their capacity to rebuild the state's infrastructure.
