MME and Mwani Qatar discuss environment monitoring at ports


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The Monitoring and Environmental Laboratory Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) and Mwani Qatar held a meeting at Hamad Port headquarters, to discuss cooperation between the two sides regarding linking environmental monitoring devices, buoys and stations at Hamad and Ruwais ports.

The meeting was attended by Director of Monitoring and Environmental Laboratory Department, Eng. Hassan Al Qasimi and Director of Security and Safety Department at Mwani Qatar, Eng. Rahman Al Marzouqi. During the meeting, the cooperation between the two parties was praised, the data and devices used in real-time environmental monitoring operations were presented, and technical and practical ways of linking between the two parties were discussed.

After the meeting, the officials visited a fixed air quality monitoring station at Hamad Port and reviewed the station's equipment and components. Mwani Qatar owns 4 buoys to monitor the quality of the marine environment, including two at Hamad Port and two at Al Ruwais Port. It also owns three fixed stations for monitoring air quality, and a mobile station for monitoring and following up on air quality. The cooperation between the Monitoring and Environmental Laboratory Department and the various authorities in the country is within the project of preparing and implementing a comprehensive plan to monitor coastal and marine water and air quality in the National Strategy 2022, which aims to improve coastal and marine water quality to comply with Qatari standards by 2022, improve air data quality, and sustainability of the marine environment and air quality through early warning.
