Turkish Cypriot leader says no discussions on Cyprus till recognition of TRNC’s equal status


(MENAFN) According to Turkey’s leader, The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) intends to initiate official discussions on the Cyprus subject in case its sovereign equality and worldwide equal status are approved.

Ersin Tatar stated that as no result has been attained since six decades, these debates cannot be carried on with the same understanding, he said while addressing to journalists after a tripartite luncheon summit which was attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades.

In addition, he restated Guterres' report and added that since there is no shared land, there is no necessity to start formal talks in Cyprus.

The TRNC leader marked there are two divided countries and two divided nations in Cyprus, and declared that in case this condition is not recognized, the status quo is going to carry on.
