Malian transition leader, US officials tackle security situation in West African country


(MENAFN) According to authorities, Malian transition leader Col. Assimi Goita and US officials tackled the security situation in the West African country and Sahel region.

An official statement showed that US Chief of Military Operations for Africa, Gen. Stephen J. Townsend, declared that US Africa command stands in solidarity with the armed forces and the people of Mali as they oppose violent radicalism.

Townsend further stated that "Malian and international partner forces have shed blood together while fighting against terrorists that threaten innocent civilians in Mali and the Sahel."

US Ambassador to Mali Dennis Hankins was also present at the meeting, in which they tackled the requirement for the transitional government to stick to its commitment to hold credible, transparent elections and move power to a elected government by April 2022.
