KABUL: Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Althani said that the Taliban Islamic Movement 'can change and act differently'.

Althani cited the remarks at the UN General Assembly in New York.

“I believe the ones who are among Taliban can change and can be working on (it), but this will need a real effort, especially by the Muslim countries,” he said.

He once again supported the idea of the Taliban being changed from the 1996s until now.

“Looking at Taliban today, it is not the same Taliban 20 years ago. Maybe the people who are fighting are different than the people who were negotiating. I am not saying that those are modernized and those are extremized, but there is a difference,” he said.

Talking to the UN general assembly, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon termed the formation of inclusive government as the main reason for peace and stability.

“We insisted that the Tajiks and other ethnicities should have a credible place in an inclusive government. Peace and stability can be assured by doing this,” he said.
