UK advises against all but essential travel to Sri Lanka

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The United Kingdom (UK) has advised against all but essential travel to Sri Lanka, despite removing Sri Lanka from the Red List.

Sri Lanka was removed from the Red List and moved to the Amber List with effect from yesterday (Wednesday).

However, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advised against all but essential travel to the whole of Sri Lanka based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.

The travel advise notes that due to a prevalence of COVID-19 cases in the community, there is a high risk of changes to flights and airport operations at short notice. Lockdowns are being imposed in affected areas, and travel restrictions may also be imposed at short notice.

The travel advise also maintains that terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks in Sri Lanka. It says attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. More than 250 people including tourists were killed in April 2019 in terrorist attacks that targeted churches and hotels. (Colombo Gazette)
