Amman International Book Fair 2021 kicks off


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sep. 23 (Petra) -- The Amman International Book Fair 2021 opened Thursday with the participation of more than 360 local, Arab and international publishers from 20 countries, celebrating Jordan's most prominent poet, the late Mustafa Wahbi al-Tal, better known as "Arar" and father of the late Prime Minister Wasfi al-Tal.
Organized by the Union of Jordanian Publishers in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Greater Amman Municipality, this year's edition of the exhibition will be held under the slogans "Centennial of the Jordanian State" and "Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine".
The exhibition, which will run through October 2, will feature titles from various fields of knowledge and literary creativity authored by writers from Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Turkey, America, Canada, Britain, India, Italy, and China.
"We are proud to see the Amman International Book Fair being held under these circumstances. The event is an opportunity for readers to learn about the Arab and local intellectual production and everything that is new in the world of knowledge. It is also an occasion to spread a spirit of joy and positivity, and to return to normalcy", said Ali Al-Ayed, Minister of Culture, during his opening of the exhibition on behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
Al-Ayed added that this year's edition of the exhibition is paying tribute to Arar for the high status that the late poet has occupied in the hearts of all Jordanians since the early beginnings of the of the Jordanian state.
The event features a diverse program celebrating the centenary of the Jordanian state, including prose and verse evenings, in addition to seminars devoted to culture and media in Jordan during the past hundred years, the publishing industry; challenges and prospects.
A special symposium will be held with the participation of a number of writers highlighting the role of Arar in enriching the poetic movement in the Kingdom, and analyzing his poetic tools and unique style.
The exhibition also dedicates another symposium entitled "Jerusalem in Drama Documentation" underlining Jordan's unwavering position rejecting schemes targeting the Arab identity of Jerusalem and the Hashemite custodianship over its holy sites.
