(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Sep. 22 the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated that they have saved 42 illicit immigrants off Libya's western coast, comprising women and kids.
"42 asylum-seekers and migrants were returned to Tripoli last night, among them 4 children and 8 women, of whom 2 were pregnant," the UN agency said in a tweet.
It noted that most of them were from Nigeria, Sudan, Yemen and Egypt, and they were offered help and medical support.
The International Organization for Migration stated that thus far this year, over 24,420 illicit migrants, comprising women and kids, have been saved, whereas hundreds of others passed away and were reported missing off the Libyan coast on the Central Mediterranean route.
