Amir's speech at UN 'comprehensive': Envoys


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The envoys of different countries to Qatar have hailed the speech of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly terming it as“comprehensive” which offered pragmatic suggestions to resolve contemporary global issues. 

Ambassador of Turkey to Qatar, H E Dr. M. Mustafa Göksu, praised the speech of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the United Nations General Assembly in its 76th session.

The Turkish Ambassador said that the speech of H H the Amir revealed the foundations of the State of Qatar, which call for establishing a climate of peace, stability and cooperation in the region, and for a commitment to settle any differences through constructive dialogue.

Ambassador Göksu added that what was mentioned in the speech is consistent with Turkey's vision on regional and international issues, especially the Palestinian, Libyan, Yemeni and Syrian situations.

He also stressed, in this regard, the full consensus of Qatari-Turkish visions in support of the Palestinian cause, and the need for the international community to bear the responsibility to achieve a comprehensive and just peace settlement for the Palestinian cause.

The Ambassador also valued what the Amir referred to the Afghan issue of the importance of dialogue with the Taliban, because the boycott and isolation only lead to polarisation and reaction. He also praised His Highness call to separate the issue of providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan people from the political differences with the current administration in Afghanistan.

In this context, he praised the Qatari role in the Afghan issue since it adopted mediation between the conflicting parties and continued to provide humanitarian aid in a serious manner.“Qatar spared no effort to evacuate thousands of individuals and families of different nationalities from Afghanistan during the past weeks,” the Ambassador said.

He also stressed that the State of Qatar is an important and reliable partner for the international community in resolving conflicts in the world. He referred to the successful step of the State of Qatar in hosting the United Nations House in Doha, to be the capital of international multilateral action in the region.

Ambassador of Oman to Qatar, H E Najib bin Yahya Al Balushi, said that the speech of H H the Amir was remarkable as he called for unifying international and national efforts to achieve security, peace and stability in a number of countries in the Arab region.

“We followed with great interest the speech of H H the Amir, as it was comprehensive, in which he addressed the most important regional and international issues and issues that concern the entire world. The Amir began his speech with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to the death of millions of people,” said the Ambassador.

“In his speech, His Highness called for the establishment of peace and the necessity of working together for peaceful resolution of regional and international conflicts by giving priority to the principle of mutual dialogue,” the Ambassador said.

The Ambassador also noted that“The Palestinian issue was always present in the speeches of H H the Amir on various occasions, and he spoke about it this year also.”

“His Highness also referred to the developments in Afghanistan and the need of achieving a comprehensive political settlement in the country. Qatar's role has been prominent in this regard, as it has done a lot to host the Afghan-Afghan dialogue, and it is still contributing very effectively by providing support and humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan,” he said.

Ambassador of India to Qatar, H E Dr. Deepak Mittal, congratulated the State of Qatar on the completion of fifty years of its joining the United Nations. 

“His Highness the Amir, in his address at the opening session of the general debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, has sagaciously presented perspective of the State of Qatar in a comprehensive manner on various topical issues of global interest. These include the COVID challenge; developments in Afghanistan, West Asia, North Africa, the threats posed by terrorism and climate change to the mankind and the need for collective action to combat many of the new age challenges,” the Ambassador said.

He said that India and Qatar enjoy very strong historical and friendly ties and have close cooperation and coordination at regional and international fora.“The issues focused upon by His Highness are of great interest for India too. Progress has been made for developing international consensus on many of them during India's Presidency of the UN Security Council in August 2021. We are confident that multifaceted cooperation between India and Qatar would continue to grow strength to strength at the UN too.”

Ambassador of Pakistan to Qatar, H E Syed Ahsan Raza Shah, has lauded address of His Highness Amir of Qatar at the 76th UNGA session terming it as a comprehensive enunciation and reiteration of Qatar's important role towards enhancing international peace and security through cooperation. 

"The speech is reflective of His Highness' status as a visionary and statesman for which he is widely respected and admired across the world."

The Ambassador added: "In his Address His Highness has raised important contemporary issues currently being faced by the international community, especially the global pandemic and necessity of equitable distribution and accessibility of vaccines to all nations around the world. Qatar has truly been a model of balanced approach in addressing the pandemic and its impacts on health and economy."

Ambassador Syed Ahsan Raza Shah greatly appreciated the wisdom and foresight in His Highness' statement on Afghanistan and his advice towards the need for the international community to stay positively engaged.

"Qatar's role in the Afghan peace process has been a further manifestation of its globally acknowledged policy of promotion of peace and stability and resolution of conflicts," the Ambassador added.

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, H E Mohammad Jashim Uddin, said that H H the Amir's speech at the UNGA reflects the words of a leader deeply concerned about the contemporary global issues offering pragmatic suggestions to resolve them to ensure peace and prosperity.

 “Coming from a dynamic leader who also has demonstrated Qatar's resolve to remain meaningfully engaged on issues of regional and global importance his speech carries timely message addressed to the international community. He narrated the picture of a proactive role played by the State of Qatar thereby becoming what H H the Amir called“a hub of international multilateral action”. In the midst of concerns about a de-globalisation process and a trend to turning inward at the expense of extending hands of collaboration, Qatar's words match its deeds as the country continues to look outward not only for its own sake but also for the sake of others and therefore the country under HH the Amir's leadership have been able to position itself as a beacon of hope,” the Ambassador said.

He added:“We align ourselves completely with Qatar's position on our Palestinian brothers and sisters to establish a Palestinian State. The speech also highlighted and aptly so the laudable role played by Qatar in not only containing the pandemic at home but also extending a helping hand to others in need. The Amir has correctly emphasised the need for equitable distribution of vaccines, ensuring their accessibility to the countries in the Southern hemisphere. Prime Minister of Bangladesh Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina has said time and again in the context of fighting the pandemic that no one is safe until everyone is safe.”

The Ambassador of Ukraine to Qatar, H E Andrii Kuzmenko, said that Ukraine and Qatar are the friendly states which build up their relations at the basis of mutual respect and cooperation.“The speech at the General Debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani  was met in my country with a great attention. Indeed, this speech goes far beyond the audience of the UN GA. Instead, it is a comprehensive strategic vision of addressing the global challenges and regional problems. It was timely delivered by the Head of the modern, successful, and worldwide respectful nation as the message of hope for a future and responsibility for the present.”

He further said:“We praise the efforts of the State of Qatar and the neighbouring countries which led to resolving differences through dialogue based on common interests and mutual respect.” 

He said that Ukraine also supports the idea regarding unifying the world community efforts to prevent the misuse of the scientific progress in cybersecurity.“H H the Amir appeal to regularise this field according to the rules of international law is timely and valuable.”

“As far as the topic of Afghanistan is concerned, I do have a pleasure to take this opportunity for expressing sincere gratitude to the Qatari friends and partners for the assistance in evacuation of my Ukrainian compatriots from that country,” the Ambassador noted.

Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar, H E Dr. Narad Nath Bharadwaj, said that the address of Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has demonstrated Qatar's growing role in the international arena as a true friend of those in real need.

“The Amir's emphasis on equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and ensuring their accessibility to the countries in the South truly reflects the current need of the world to overcome the threat of the virus in real sense. Qatar's support to other countries in medical supplies and contribution to international agencies like GAVI and WHO for arrangement of vaccine for the vulnerable countries has been a landmark display of Qatar's concern for the need of the developing countries.”

The Ambassador further said that Qatar's generous support and contribution for evacuation of nationals of many countries from Afghanistan demonstrated the commitment of Qatari leadership to support humanitarian cause. 

“Even many Nepalis were repatriated from Afghanistan via Qatar. We are thankful to the Government of the State of Qatar for the overall support in facilitating this process.”

“It is pleasing to see that Qatar's engagement with the UN and its agencies are increasing day by day. Qatar's hosting of an increasing number of international agencies under the aegis of the UN in Doha demonstrates this engagement,” the Ambassador of Nepal added.

Ambassador of Mexico to Qatar, H E Graciela Gomez Garcia, said that in listening to His Highness speech during the General Debate of the 76th United Nations General Assembly, she was delighted to identify numerous areas of agreement between Mexico and Qatar. 

“The Amir called the leaders of the world to reinforce our joint responsibility and the values of partnership in international relations as the means to“achieve the interest of our peoples and the good of humanity”. This appeal is as valid in addressing climate change, fighting the pandemic, promoting access to education, combating terrorism or solving international conflicts through dialogue and negotiation.”

She said that Qatar has become a beacon for the international community by defending the equitable distribution of vaccines and access to treatment for all, including in the less developed countries – a principle that is also at the core of Mexico's position. 

“I congratulate the State of Qatar on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of their membership to the United Nations and I look forward to further strengthening the collaboration between our two countries at the multilateral arena.”
