World leaders vow to combat coronavirus, climate change

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Sep. 21, the first day of the general debate of the 76th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, world leaders vowed to combat the coronavirus pandemic and climate change.

The urgent priority in combating coronavirus is to guarantee the just and equitable distribution of vaccines worldwide, noted Chinese President Xi Jinping in his speech delivered through video at the general debate. He added that China will work hard to offer an overall of 2 billion shots of vaccines to the world by the end of 2021.

He stated that besides donating USD100 million to COVAX, the country will donate USD100 million extra shots of vaccines to other developing nations in 2021.

On climate change, the president noted China will boost backing for other developing nations in developing green and low-carbon energy, and will not construct fresh coal-fired power ventures overseas.
