Yemen: Houthi militants approach oil fields in Shabwa


(MENAFN) A military official said to Xinhua that on Tuesday, Sep. 21 the Houthi rebel militants accomplished on-ground military advancement and seized major areas in southern Yemen's oil-rich province of Shabwa.

The Houthi rebels conducted an extreme offensive and seized Bayhan district in the province, where major oil fields are found, noted the local military source on condition of remaining anonymous.

He added: "scores of Houthi fighters were deployed in Bayhan following several hours of fighting with the government forces in the area."

He further said that following the Houthi deployment in Bayhan, the insurgents started assaulting locales in the district of Usaylan which also consists of oil fields.
