Australia: Demonstrations staged over building ban amidst rising coronavirus cases

(MENAFN) Building sector laborers spilled onto the street for another day after a two-week ban on the industry in the Australian city of Melbourne in response to building sites being involved in fresh coronavirus cases.

Early on Tuesday, demonstrators took to the streets protesting through downtown Melbourne.

Riot police have been sent off to watch and separate the crowds while also safeguarding major sites comprising the state parliament, and the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMMEU) building, where demonstrators fought with police on Monday.

Monday's fight at the CFMMEU witnessed broken windows, objects hurled at senior officials, and rubber bullets being utilized by riot police to separate crowds.
