Arab League calls for spreading values of peace based on respect for human rights


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Cairo: The League of Arab States called on all countries and peoples to work on spreading peace by taking the necessary steps to achieve sustainable economic and social development and enhance security, national reconciliation and the rule of law.

It also calls for establishing a set of values and behavioral patterns based on respect for human rights and the rejection of violence in all its forms, promoting adherence to the principles of democracy, freedom and justice, spreading the values of tolerance, peaceful coexistence, cultural pluralism, and strengthening societal dialogue.

The Arab League affirmed its full support for the efforts undertaken by the United Nations with the aim of promoting sustainable peace, including its commitments to peacekeeping and peacebuilding which are the most effective means available in the field of promoting and maintaining international peace and security.

This came in a statement issued Tuesday by the Arab League on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Peace, which falls on Sep. 21 of each year, and which was established on Sep. 30,1981, by the United Nations General Assembly, with the aim of enhancing the ideals of peace, reducing tensions and addressing the causes of conflicts around the world.

The Arab League renewed keenness to establish a strategic partnership with the international organization to prevent and resolve disputes and armed conflicts and create sustainable peaceful world, calling on all countries and peoples who live in areas affected by conflicts, especially in the Arab region, to immediately cease fire, abide by the cessation of hostilities and find political solutions as the only way to settle conflicts and disputes.
