(MENAFN) The Spanish island of La Palma was hit by a volcano, disgorging lava, smoke, and ash, as well as emptied thousands of inhabitants.
This is the first time ever since 1971 the Cumbre Vieja volcano, positioned on the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, and has exploded.
As said by Spain’s Civil Guard police force, they are vacating amid 5,000 to 10,000 inhabitants from the Canary Islands.
The smoke and lava by now had an effect on four main highways to date.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was delaying his future journey to New York, where he planned to join the UN General meeting, and is going to travel to La Palma in its place.
